Natural Wooden Blinds Print E-mail
Friday, 11 May 2007
Wooden blinds are perhaps the most natural way to dress up your windows and decorate your home. They are made from natural wood which means they are more biodegradable than vinyl shades. Although one might not necessarily be thinking that far into the future when choosing their window dressings, it certainly nice to know that wooden blinds will help to less their impact on nature. It helps to strip wooden blinds of any coatings, such as paints or sealants, before throwing them away. This way nature’s natural processes can work on the wood more quickly.

Wooden Blinds won’t need to be thrown away for a very long time, however. Many people have the very same blinds in their home for multiple generations because of their incredible durability. Wooden blinds are a fixture in many homes around the world. That said, it is important to consider fire safety when installing wooden blinds. Of course no window covering should be too close to a heating element, as fire could result.

Although wooden blinds are made from wood, this does not make them unsafe in regards to fire. Wooden blinds have a significant advantage over curtains in that they can be treated with a fire resistant sealant. The wood is less vulnerable to fire and thus the fire spreads more slowly. This slows down the progression of a fire, allowing the family more time to escape in the event of such a catastrophe. Although beauty is the primary concern when deciding on window coverings, it is nice to know that wooden blinds also provide a sense of security.
