Reiki Rolfing Reflexology and Day Spas Print E-mail
Saturday, 22 July 2006
A quick introduction to alternative health techniques can be a fun way to spend an afternoon at a day spa. Many resorts offer sessions which feature modified renditions of popular therapies like Reiki, Rolfing and reflexology. Sometimes using a day spa to dabble in one of these disciplines is just an interesting experiment; other times an initial procedure can lead to further investigation. A few people may even find a service that becomes part of their day spa routine.

Variants of Reiki are commonly found on day spa menus. Reiki massage centers on channeling energy through the hands of the masseuse/masseur. True Reiki adherents believe in the ability of the therapist to heal but mainstream Reiki as delivered in most day spas emphasizes pain relief and overall improved heath. Further, Rolfing is based on the theory of a relationship between emotional/mental/physical health and the proper alignment of the body. Rolfing performed in day spas generally involves mild deep tissue massage focused on bringing the body into line. Finally, Reflexology is similar to acupressure. Massages of this sort concentrate on manipulating parts of the hands, feet and/or ears which practitioners feel are linked to other parts of the body. Various reflexology techniques are found in many day spas.

One of the many advantages of visiting a day spa is the opportunity it affords a person to try out different types of relaxing, stress reducing therapies. A healthy person who is open to a little experimentation may enjoy indulging in mainstream versions of alternative therapies. A day spa can be the perfect place to test drive a different massage model.
